Earn-A-Bike

What’s Earn-A-Bike?

The Community Bike Project of Omaha’s core program “Earn-a-Bike” is here to provide Omahans of any age with a refurbished bicycle, as well as the foundational skills and knowledge to maintain and safely ride it. Adult Earn-a-Bike is offered year-round. Youth Earn-a-Bike runs six months a year (approx. April - end of October, dates will vary each year). Text, email, or stop by the shop for more information or to get registered!

Q: I’m eligible for Adult Earn-A-Bike, so can I just show up when you’re open and do the program?

Depending on the time of year, the bike shop gets super busy as soon as we open. We cannot promise walk-in requests for Adult Earn-a-Bike as our ongoing programs are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. We highly recommend registering at least two-days in advance.

Q: The person I’m registering for Earn-a-Bike is a minor (under 19yo), can drop them off during the program and pick them up when it’s done ?

An adult caretaker, parent, or guardian must remain on the premises if the Earn-a-Bike participant is under 19yo. This is non-negotiable for Youth Earn-a-Bike program participants (rising or current 1st - 7th graders).

Q: What if I show up late to my Earn-a-Bike class time?

Please make every effort to show up on time. If you are running a few minutes late, don’t sweat it. You can text us (402-957-2454) and let us know. If you are like 15-minutes or more late—especially for Youth Earn-a-Bike classes—we won’t have enough time to get through the class. We will ask you to sign up for another class time.

Q: Can I register my youth for the younger or older age group Youth Earn-a-Bike for [reason]?

Classes are age-specific. Cyclists must attend their appropriate/assigned grade level class.

Class capacity is capped at two (2) youth cyclists per class. We cannot promise if you drop by that you will be able to come into the class. We highly recommend registering at least two-days in advance.

Q: If Youth Earn-a-Bike classes are at the times time each week, can my Youth and I just show up?

Q: I have siblings that I want to register for Youth Earn-a-Bike and I can’t bring them to two different days…. HELP?!?

Yes, classes are age-specific however we don’t want to prevent families (biological, chosen, or otherwise) from taking advantage of our Youth Earn-a-Bike program. Register you related or connected youth for the same session and explain to us in the registration form why you need them in the same class time. We will work with you to make this happen!
